Salisbury City v Cambridge United preview (FA Trophy)

SALISBURY City will attempt to reach the last eight of the FA Trophy for the third time in five seasons when they welcome Cambridge United to the Raymond McEnhill Stadium for this evening’s third round replay.

Up for grabs is a cheque for £7,000 from the competition’s prize fund and a highly desirable home quarter-final tie with fellow Blue Square Premier side Tamworth.

Last Tuesday’s closely-fought third round encounter at the Abbey Stadium ended goalless, and neither side managed to find the net in Saturday’s league games - both Salisbury and Cambridge suffered defeats - Whites going down 5-0 at Altrincham while the U’s lost 1-0 at Crawley Town.

City boss Tommy Widdrington will have to change the side from that which lost at Altrincham as transfer window signings Ronnie Bull and Chris Bush are ineligible for tonight’s tie.

Nelson Monhon is cup-tied while Dan Webb (knee) remains sidelined.

There are also doubts about Toby Osman (illness) and Patrick Cox (family bereavement).

Cambridge boss Martin Ling also has availability problems ahead of his side’s visit to Wiltshire.

Goalkeeper Danny Potter is expected to be out for up to two months after injuring his shoulder in training on Friday. He missed Saturday’s defeat at Crawley so young custodian Laurie Walker, formerly on the books of Millwall, is again expected to start between the sticks.

To progress to the last eight, Whites have to beat a Cambridge side victorious on their last two visits to the Ray Mac. They triumphed 2-1 in what was City’s final home league game of last season and were 2-0 victors when they met in Salisbury’s first Blue Square Premier campaign.

Kick off this evening is 7.45pm.

If required, extra time and then a penalty shoot-out will decide who hosts Tamworth on February 20.

Whites team (from): Bittner, Pryce, Clohessy, Ruddick, Cox, Giles, Turley, O’Hara, Sinclair, Flood, Gray, Anderson, Clarke, Adelsbury, Tubbs, Connolly.
