IT'S been a bonanza week for carp with big mirrors, commons and ghosts being taken from several south Wiltshire fisheries.

Among the largest were a 22lb common caught by James Smith from Abbots Lake at Waldens Farm Fishery and a 17lb 2oz mirror caught by Colin Sellwood from Witherington Farm Fishery.

Sam Chant, from Alderbury, had a memorable day when he fished Waldens Farm, first taking a 15lb mirror from Abbots Lake, followed by a 14lb 4oz ghost carp and then he moved to Monks Lake and took a 10lb 8oz common.

Madine Shepherd, of Amesbury, fished Abbots and landed a 14lb 13oz ghost carp. Halibut pellet was the most successful bait followed by sweetcorn.

Anglers are catching plenty of rudd, roach, crucians, tench and carp from Monks Lake with carp up to 8lb from Popes Lake together with tench, bream and chub.

Jack Wateridge, the grandson of Waldens Farm owner, Dave Wateridge, took a 7lb 8oz common carp fishing crust on the surface of Deacons Lake.

Salisbury Angling Club's match on Deacons was won by Lee Goodfellow with 62lb 4oz, Mark Cannings was second with 53lb 10oz and Brian Shutler third with 52lb 6oz.

Brian did better on Sunday when he fished the annual Gordon Tedd Memorial Match at Withering-ton Farm.

He won with 53lb 8oz, ahead of Paul Barnard on 46lb 5oz and Ian Goodfellow, 43lb 8oz.

Cottage Lake is fishing well at Witherington Farm with a match at the weekend being won with 94lb 7oz and some of the larger carp in Barnmoor Lake are also beginning to show over the last few days.

Tench between 4lb and 6lb and plenty of carp to just under double figures, have been taken from the new Watergate Farm Fishery at Bulford.

Damsel and buzzers are top patterns at Avon Springs Trout fishery at Durrington at the moment, accounting for a 7lb 9oz rainbow from Club Lake and a 6lb 6oz rainbow from Willow Lake.
