Salisbury & District League roundup - January 21/22 (also 14/15)

BOSCOMBE Down Rec Club secured their second final spot of the season, beating Halfway House Reserves 7-0 in the Cook Cup.

Chris Young whipped in a corner that flew straight in to open the scoring early on, and after 20 minutes another Young corner was headed in by Martin Luke.

Halfway House had a man sent off and Boscombe took full advantage after the break, Robbie Homebury setting up Dave Sage ten minutes in, and Homebury then played in substitute Paul Matthews who turned a defender before firing in.

Matthews was on fire and after receiving the ball from Danny Rider, he beat a defender before he curled a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box, and he went on to complete his hat trick, smashing the ball in after good work by Tom Brown. Stevie Leigh pulled off an incredible fingertip save to keep the clean sheet intact.

James Dickie's run culminated in a pass to Matthews who scored his fourth to make it 7-0 late on.

Chalke Valley sprung a surprise with an extra time Morrison Cup win at Stockton & Codford.

Wayne Parsons made full use of the blustery conditions, scoring direct from a corner. Only five saves from Luke Donahue and the woodwork kept Stockton out, but the pressure told six minutes from time when they levelled. Bryn Kelly won it for Valley late in extra time, latching onto Dan Smith's through ball and slotting under the advancing keeper.

Porton Sports lost 3-2 at Alderbury in the Premier Cup, despite taking the lead through Andy Fung, who smashed in David Lang's cross-shot. The hosts levelled with an unstoppable 20-yard strike, and went ahead in the second half.

Dan Jones converted a penalty awarded for handball, but Alderbury nicked the winner from a corner.

In the Premier Division, Nomansland manager Mike Ward had to make five changes and use his fifth goalkeeper of the season at West Harnham. The hosts took an early lead, went 3-0 up by half time, and it stayed that way.

On Sunday, the Royal George upset the form book with a 5-1 rout of Harlequins SC.

Timmy Fewins slotted the first, and Callender forced the backline into errors before grabbing the second. Fewins nudged the George further ahead, and he showed a good burst of pace before prodding home his hat trick goal before the break.

Harlequins got one back, but Jimmy Gale made sure the hosts had the last word after great work by Fewins.

Roundup – January 14/15

PORTON Sports started 2012 with a thumping 6-1 home win over West Harnham.

Andy Mearns opened the scoring with a fine individual run, his pace too much for the Harnham defence, and he slotted home. Harnham equalised but Lee Harkins turned and curled a shot into the far corner on the stroke of half time.

After 65 minutes, James Carr got the faintest of touches to Martin Lewis' cross, and Dan Jones converted a penalty, won for a shove. Carr added his second from close range and Doug Malcolm came off the bench to complete the rout.

Also in the Premier Division, Nomansland beat Durrington WMC 2-1. The visitors took the lead with a superb free kick into the top corner.

Lee Ricketts scored a penalty early in the second half, after a trip on Brad Hallett. Both teams were reduced to ten men following a skirmish, and Tommy Arnold headed the winner from Ben Talbot's fine cross.

In Division Two, Chalke Valley inflicted Wilton Club's first league defeat of the season. Bobby Bronsdon marked his return after a year out with a knee injury by giving Valley a 17th-minute lead, and he made it two seven minutes later.

Russ Parsons finished well on the stroke of half time, and although Darren Baxter gave Wilton hope with a penalty after 50 minutes, Mark Batchalor made it 4-1 with a neat finish nine minutes from time.

Boscombe Down Rec Club beat Salisbury Arms 4-1 - Martin Luke, Tom Brown, Danny Rider and Chris Young getting the goals.

*Enford were unable to raise a team this season.
