Salisbury & District League roundup - September 1/2

DURRINGTON Dynamos got off to a flying start in the Salisbury & District Premier League, giving West Harnham an 8-0 thrashing on Saturday.

Holding champions The Wanderers drew 1-1 at South Newton & Wishford, the hosts serving a reminder to Liam McConnell's side just how difficult it will be to retain their title.

Newton started at a fast pace and did not allow their visitors to settle on the ball. They went ahead when Richard Tutton sweetly placed a 20-yard free kick into the roof of the net.

Wanderers equalised when the Newton defence failed to clear and Gary Hooker netted from close range. Defences were on top after the break and neither side could find a winner.

In Division One, Deacon Alms reserves won a nine-goal thriller at West Harnham reserves, a game that swung from one team to the other for the whole match.

They were behind twice in the first half but Tom Symes and then Josh Fryer pulled them level. Symes then put Deacons  ahead early in the second half.

Harnham equalised, but man of the match Matt Thom headed the visitors back into the lead. A deflected 30-yarder from Fryer eventually settled the game late on.

On Sunday, St Pauls Club reserves won 5-1 at a new-look Laverstock & Ford. The hosts bossed the first half and were ahead at the interval, thanks to a James Hennessey goal, but Ben Reilly finished two Kev Burke crosses to turn the tide.

Lavvy kept coming back at them but as they tired, they were hit by three late goals on the break, from Simon Rogers, Will Cranmer and Troy Greeves.

St Pauls' reserves warmed up for the season by winning 4-3 at Laverstock reserves. They were 2-0 down but fought back with Russ Parsons' stunning volley and Tom Western's cross which creeped in.

Laverstock went in front again in the second half before conceding an own goal, leaving it for Lenny Lewis to score a well-worked St Pauls winner and give them high hopes of a successful title defence.
