Salisbury & District League roundup - September 15/16

SOUTH Newton & Wishford claimed their first win of the season on Saturday, beating Durrington Dynamos 2-0 away from home.

Daniel Brian tricked his way into the area and was upended by a number of defenders. Rich Tutton made no mistake from the spot, waiting for the goalkeeper to dive before knocking it the other way.

Striker Dave Warburton's persistence was rewarded when a defensive mistake presented him with the chance to make it 2-0, and he duly obliged.

The home team poured forward in the second half but brilliant defensive performances from Charlie Blake, Mickey Tutton and Dan Targett prevented Dynamos from getting on the scoresheet.

Porton Sports started their season later than most but brushed off the cobwebs with a 2-0 win at Deacon Alms.

Tom Parker had a header brilliantly saved, and he then hit the post before he made his third effort count – a fine bit of individual skill before a volley into the far corner.

Porton doubled their lead soon after the restart, Luke Nicklen flicking past the advancing goalkeeper from Andy Mearns' through ball. Deacons went close, forcing a fine save from Ben Hatt, and also had a late goal disallowed for a foul.

In Division One, Durrington WMC went ahead at Stockton & Codford and it was 2-2 at the break. However Stockton hit four unanswered goals in the second half, to run out 6-2 winners.

On Sunday, St Pauls Club also battled back from a deficit to win 6-2, but they were 2-0 down at Chilworth Manor Sports. Lenny Lewis and Tom Western each scored twice, and Jack Brooks and Jessie Waters got the others to give the scoreline a flattering look.
