SALISBURY CITY returned from Saturday’s heart-breaking defeat in tremendous fashion by blasting four past high-flying Dorchester Town on Tuesday night.

Stuart Sinclair started City’s biggest thrashing of the season with a delightful strike inside eight minutes and Chris McPhee added a second with a sweet right-footed effort.

And when Robbie Matthews collected his 50th goal for Salisbury it simply added to the entertainment at the Ray Mac, before McPhee clinched a fourth with a penalty kick in the closing stages to regain the Whites’ three point gap at the top of Conference South.

After a nervy opening, the Whites settled into their stride and got off to a perfect start through Sinclair’s neat finish after skipping away from a flock of yellow shirts.

And he showed his delight of grabbing his first goal of the new campaign with a wild celebration, which created smiles all around the ground.

Salisbury started to pile on the pressure from then on, and nine minutes later the second was delivered – this time it came from a great passage of play between two players who have terrorised defences in recent weeks with their great combination.

Sinclair’s delivery was met by McPhee on the edge of the area and he took one touch before curling a beauty into the top corner.

The Magpies, who have enjoyed a blistering start to the season, didn’t muster their first opportunity until the half-hour mark when Neil Martin’s cross sliced City’s defence in half but Willem Puddy denied Mark Jermyn’s far post header.

Both Jamie White and Sinclair had chances to put clear distance between their opponents with strikes which troubled keeper Jason Matthews.

But in the 52nd minute the three points were firmly in the bag when Matthews’ glancing header crashed into the roof of the net from a set piece.

And after quite a dreary twenty minutes, the crowd spurred back into life when City were awarded a penalty inside 78 minutes after Garyn Preen went tumbling down inside the box.

Unphazed McPhee approached the spot and rifled home to cap off a well-rounded performance.
