CITY of Salisbury athlete Ben Brewster maintained his spell of good form at Yeovil in the summer series 5k with a speedy run of 16min 13sec for fourth place, less than a minute down on the winner and heading the club squad.

But he only just held off a fast moving Tom Cummings, whose 16.22 earned him seventh place.

Then came Rob Lomas in 18.42, Simon Wiltshire 18.52, Steve Lomas 23.04, and supervet Gordon Wiltshire 30.20.

In the misleadingly titled Dorset Doddle, which is anything but easy, the Salisbury pairing of Phil Smith and Stuart Holloway tackled the 32-mile Jurassic coastal route between Weymouth and Swanage. The course, six miles longer than a marathon and featuring a series of steep climbs on the cliffs, guarantees a tough outing.

The duo’s finishing time of six hours 20 minutes was a 55-minute improvement on their performance last year and augurs well for the forthcoming road race season starting next month. Andy Gillespie did well to finish in 7h28.
