TRIO of Autumn marathons were the focus for City of Salisbury’s endurance athletes at the weekend, with two good personal bests the highlights.

At the Chester 26-miler, Jon Rich reaped the reward of much dedicated training to clock his best ever time at the distance, a very respectable 3hours 3mins 6secs placing him well up the top 150 in a field of around 3,000. His sister Jennifer also did well, clocking 3.36.38.

In summer-like conditions at Bournemouth, Katherine Bleakley made a most promising marathon debut and, despite temperatures on the seafront almost too warm for distance running, was only a few strides outside the four hour barrier with 4.00.06. Fiona Ross- Russell showed she is getting back into her old form with 3.35.43 and other club finishers were Liz Roberts with a good 4.10.35 and Katie Clements 4.36.43.

In the Clarendon marathon along the ancient hilly tracks linking Salisbury with Winchester, David Osment finished 50th in 3.51.44 and Simon Marley came home in 4.11.44.

Over the half marathon distance at Cardiff, Judy Flint led the Salisbury team with a pleasing 2.8.56, followed by Mary Clements 2.16.33 and Louise Badham 2.21.02.
