SALISBURY’S top road go up a place runner Stuart Holloway had another hard day at the unforgiving Gosport half marathon, despite finishing in a respectable 72mins 31secs.

Holloway clocked a time less than half a minute slower than his best ever time for the 13-mile distance, set in the same Hampshire League fixture last year, but still found himself relegated to 12th place on Sunday.

He had to concede five minutes to an exceptional run by Southampton Athletic Club’s Alex Wall- Clarke who won by two minutes from a good quality field.

Next best Salisbury finisher was Aaron Wilson, pictured right, with a good 78.

Wilson marginally pipped clubmate Kevin Tilley, who won his age category with an excellent 79.13. The men’s A team was completed by Adie Woolven in 85.03.

The ladies’ team was led by the excellent Nicky Yevko, whose 87.34 topped her veteran category.

Another of the day’s personal bests came from Sally Greenslade, with 91.24, and Ruth Thom defied triathlon fatigue to also clock a big personal best of 96.11.

Dave West marked his full return from injury with a pb 85.10 to lead the men’s B team, and was supported by Adam Bridge, 90.47, Jon Greenhalgh, 97.08, and Craig Murphy with a pb 1hour 40min 05sec.

Other Salisbury finishers were Liz Roberts, 1.48.30pb, Mel Murphy, 1.48.35, Andy Robbins, 1.49.46pb, Hilary Webber, 2.00.44, Colin Martin, 2.4.30 and Jane Whiteley, 2.4.40.

Robert Mann took the Avon Valley half marathon by storm to notch a notable personal best and take second place with 71.50, and Chris Southern was fourth in 75.06. Nicole Kruse finished in the top 200 with 1.54.55.

In the Yeovilton 5k, Simon Winchester went quicker than for some time to clock 19mins 7secs. Marilyn Hunt was timed at 28.21 and Gordon Wiltshire 30.14 for another first in his age group.
