A HANDFUL of Salisbury Stingrays’ swimmers leaped onto the medal table at the Portsmouth Northsea Level 1 Open Meet at Mountbatten Leisure Centre.

Competing against hot athletes from across the south, Oni Taiwo took bronze in the 11 years 100m freestyle and went one better in the 50m freestyle, with a silver medal. Lily Battersby took bronze in the 12 years 100m breaststroke.

Luke Dear had a brilliant weekend, taking silver in the boys 11 years 100m butterfly as well as two bronze medals in the 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke. Phil Muspratt collected silver in the men’s 50m freestyle on his way back to fitness.

But it was Sidney Fenwick who was Salisbury’s standout swimmer of the weekend, collecting two golds in the 13 years 200m and 100m breaststroke.

Strong performances at the meet from Taiwo, Emma Jackson, Fenwick, Dear, Battersby, Luke Demetri and Matilda Bryant ensured personal bests were registered.
