FAST-PACED Stuart Holloway of City of Salisbury set the tone for a string of good performances by his clubmates at the Stubbington 10k league road race.

He took seventh place of 1800 starters to lead the Salisbury men’s A team with a quality run of 33min 15sec on Sunday.

The improving Tom Cummings was next, just three places back, his 33.31 earning a personal best just ahead of Ben Bewster’s 34.09. His notably quick father, Michael, clocked a cracking pb of 35.02 to complete the team which took a deserved second place behind Southampton AC. But by defeating the promoting club, Salisbury improved their league leading chances.

Salisbury’s ladies also did well, Katie West running a good 39.17, following by Faye Parker 41.01 and Sally Greenslade 42.24, and so remain second behind Winchester AC in the table.

Not to be outshone, Kevin Tilley led the men’s B team with 35.27, followed by Aaron Wilson 37.13, Dave West 38.50 and Craig Murphy with 44.30.

Other Salisbury finishers were John Ruskin 44.47, Mel Holloway 45.34, Sarah Brewster 46.16, Ruth Thom 46.31, Ali Restall 48.25, Andy Robbins 49.04, Liz Roberts 49.18, Jay Friedlander 49.24, Melenie Murphy 49.42, Jane Whiteley 51.49, Jeanette Hardiman 53.13, Jim Phillips 54.48, Colin Martin 56.19 and Paula Phillips 58.22.

At the South East Indoor Championships on the boards of Lee Valley, Austen Lane produced a superb 23.05sec to take silver in the under 17s 200m and Jonathon Batchelor took bronze in the under 15s with a pb 24.51sec. Other new 200m marks were set by Callum MacTaggart with 24.59sec; Meg Siddle 28.36sec and Meg Price 29.36sec; Alex James 26.06sec and Dean Hodgson 26.96sec; Trevor Alexander 24.03sec and Jake Ness in the men’s final 22.51sec.

In the 60m dash, personal bests were set by Callum MacTaggart 7.64sec, Alex James 8.02sec, Abbey Babatunde 7.54sec, Andrew Pryde 7.34sec, Keith Cullen Bachiller 8.19sec, Austen Lane 7.38sec and Jacob Collins 7.71sec.

At Cardiff in the British Athletic cross country challenge, Jay Domoney moved up to eighth overall in the under 15s by finishing a good 11th on the day, while Hermione Seymour took a splendid sixth spot among the under 17s.
