ALEX Mundell, pictured, was one of the stars at City of Salisbury’s annual cross country promotion where, in tough conditions on Hudson’s Field, she took an excellent third place in the under 20s category.

This result secured her second place overall in her age group for the season-long regional league competition.

In the senior men’s event, Chris Southern was top Salisbury finisher in 22nd spot, Steve Herring 26th, Nick Willetts 32nd, Adrian Woolvern 92nd, David Osment 122nd and Gary Domoney 149th.

Sam Coles did well to take 12th in the under 13s, rising to 10th in the league. Greg Herring was 44th and, in the girls’ race, Tasha Mundell was 42nd, despite hail. Owen Brown was 36th in the under 17s.

In the south-west schools’ cross country championships at Bournemouth, Abigail Burn enjoyed an outstanding run among the minor girls to clinch the silver medal and Hermione Seymour also did superbly to take fifth in the senior girls.

Jay Domoney was 21st in the intermediate boys and in the juniors, Jack Bennett was 28th, Finley Lloyd-Gilmore 38th and Taylor Oakley 40th.

Much affected by the rain, the Meon Valley Plod, a 21-mile multi-terrain race, near Southampton, boasting “legcrumbling hills and lashings of mud” was the scene of Stuart Holloway’s return to winning ways on Sunday.

The City of Salisbury athlete made light of bad conditions and finished several minutes clear of some strong competition with a time of 2 hours 31min 35sec. Andy Gillespie with 3.46.20 and Kathryn Waterworth with 4.33.50 showed how tough it was.

In the Longleat 10k, Liz Roberts was well up when she crossed the finish line in 50min 27sec. She was closely followed by Andy Robbins with 51.09 and Jeanette Hardiman 51.41.

Jen Witt was next club finisher with 56.11 and Adrian Webb, making a welcome return after a long absence with injury, registered 60.54.
