YOUNG athletes from City of Salisbury are on track to record their highest ranked finish in the Wessex Young Athletes League following their strong showing on Sunday.

During their match in Andover, in which they finished second overall, the under 15 girls won their section as Heidi Porter, Tash Mundell, Morgan Ringwood and Kitty Smithson all gleaned points in unfamiliar events.

Wins were secured by Georgina Henry in the discus and by javelin thrower Ottillie Knight, who was fresh from her adventures at the English Schools A t h l e t i c s ’ Association championships.

Also back from the same event was under 17 sprinter Austen Lane.

He stormed to victory in the 200m in 22.30secs - equalling his own league record – and completed the 100m in 11.20, before going on to win the shot put with a throw of 10.05m.

Double victory was clinched by Jacob Collins in the under 15s 200m in 24.10 and shot put in 11.71.

Notable personal bests were also achieved in the boys U13s from Greg Herring in the 800m, Tom Beckles in the 100m and 200m and Ethan Ness in the shot put and discus.
