CITY of Salisbury’s Jay Domoney notched an outstanding third place at the 2.5k junior version of the Great South Run at Portsmouth and it might have been better still if he had not been denied a place by an electronic timing chip on his running shoe.

A desperately close tussle in the final yards of the 14 to 16 category saw Domoney seemingly in second spot behind winner Will Stockley of Team Bath AC. The chip ruled otherwise, however, as Luke Powell of Southampton AC was given second and Domoney a creditable third in 7min 52sec.

Ten-year-old Rose Warren took an encouraging 11th place with 10.17 among nearly 200 starters in her 2.5k event, and her mother Sarah in the 5k went even better to come a notable fifth in 21min 03sec.

In the 10mile main race, Kevin Daniels clocked a personal best 65min 45sec and he was followed by Emma Chambers with 74.05 and Andy Gillespie 75.01.

The Bilbao night marathon saw the club’s long distance specialist Phil Smith in action. He made the trip worthwhile with a clocking of 3hours 35min 52sec.

In the Snowdonia marathon, Scott Huntley produced an almost identical time as his clubmate in Spain, crossing the line in 3.36.04.

At the Lausanne marathon in Switzerland, Chrissy Gorham ran her way back into the results with a welljudged 3.59.38 and John Gorham was just outside the four-hour barrier with 4.03.26.
