CITY of Salisbury athletics club were without some of their fastest runners due to absence and injury for the Lordshill 10-mile road race at Southampton, the fourth fixture in the 12- event Hampshire road league.

Some good individual performances were eclipsed by hot competition from the region’s top clubs, several of which are now striding ahead of current title-holders Salisbury in both the men’s and ladies’ tables.

Toby Lambert of Winchester AC was in a class of his own with a matchless 51-minute outing.

For Salisbury, Stuart Holloway was 14 places down with 56min 37sec and he was followed by Kevin Tilley in 61.09, Ian Shelley 63.33 and Rithy Hy 67.09 to form the club’s men’s A team.

The ladies’ team was led by a strong run from Katherine Bleakley who clocked a personal best 71.51, and she was supported by Laura Buchanan with 75.22 and Sarah Brewster 75.46.

Other Salisbury finishers were Nick Willetts in a personal best of 68.18, Craig Murphy 74.35, Andrew Gould 75.20, Melenie Murphy 79.32, Jane Whiteley 83.37, Liz Roberts 84.30, Mel Holloway 87.37, Jacqueline Chlebowski 92.07 and Colin Martin 107.10.
