THERE was plenty of Christmas cheer for City of Salisbury athletes at the Wiltshire cross country championships when county titles were scooped by the club in both the senior men’s and junior girls’ categories.

On a demanding but rapid grassland course at the University of Bath, conditions were right for Tom Cummings who used his strength over the 10k distance to become Wiltshire champion for 2014, coming home in a quick 34mins and 6secs.

Ben Brewster also did well on Sunday, finishing in second place just five seconds behind winner Cummings.

Steve Herring was ninth overall and also took second spot in the veterans’ lists.

The day started on a bright note for Abigail Burn in the under 13s category, who ran superbly and justified all the promise she has shown earlier in the season with another victory under her belt. Great support came from Louise Webb in third place and upand- coming Rose Warren in fifth.

Greg Herring was sixth in the under 13s’ boys event, and Fabrice Webb also sixth among the under 15s.

Maisie Grant led home the club’s under 15 girls from fourth place, with Tasha Mundell seventh and Rachel Herring ninth. Jay Domoney was a good second in the under 17s and Sarah Warren was ninth in the senior ladies.

  • In trail running at the Bath Skyline 10k, Sean Gibson finished in 49.38 and Sue Hazzard continued her rehabilitation from injury with 70.50.
