LAURA Buchanan, of City of Salisbury athletic club, achieved a notable success at Brighton in her maiden marathon, finishing in the top 50 women among a field comprising 10,000 runners.

Defying recent injury, she was unfazed by the 26.2 mile challenge, revelling in the race and the big crowds it’s famous for, clocking 3hours 34min 13sec.

Craig Murphy had good reason to be pleased with his outing to Brighton too, his 3.37.52 an improvement of two minutes on his previous best. Melenie Murphy was another to ward off injury worries when she recorded 4.09.57.

The rather hillier Exmoor marathon, with more than 5,000ft of ascents, was the target of Liz Roberts who not only completed the tough course in 6.13.02 but improved on her time of last year - by 40 seconds.

In the Yeovil summer series 5k, Adam Bradburn clocked 19min 11sec and Aly Sloane 22.18.

Jay Domoney took another step towards achieving one of his ambitions for the coming track season when he set a new personal best for the 800m at Watford. Surrounded by much slower runners, he reached the bell in just under 59sec, then had to time trial to the finish which he reached in 2min 2.1sec.

Now close to beating the two-minute barrier, the under-17 prospect’s next fixture at the distance is in the Southern League at Bracknell on April 25.

SALISBURY Tri Club’s Josephine Child and Ruth Thom took part in the Ringwood triathlon on Sunday where they took on a 600m swim, 40k bike ride and10k run.

Child finished second female in 2:20:06, missing out on first place by only eight seconds, while Thom came sixth with a time of 2:29:39.
