SCORCHING sunshine made it taxing conditions for many runners in the season’s final event of the Hampshire road race league.

The flat and urban D-Day 10k race at Portsmouth, despite a lack of shade, saw veteran Mike Brewster be City of Salisbury’s greatest on the day with a time of 40min 5sec, a good run that was several minutes slower than his best due to injury.

Next was Adam Bradburn with an excellent 42.04 for second place in his age group, then came Mike White in 42.51, Nick Cooke a fine personal best of 43.49, Sarah Brewster 45.39, Laura Buchanan 46.23, Rod Smith 53.57 and Will Witt 62.12.

Participants in Salisbury's Race for Men were also weather-affected in the multi-terrain 10k, with Ian Berry of Winchester AC scooping top spot.

Kevin Daniels in sixth place was Salisbury’s highest placed runner with 43.40 and Nick Hudson finished slightly further down with 56.16.

Oliver Phillips was second in the 3k version of the event, clocking 10min 56sec.
