NOMANSLAND were the architects of their own downfall in their first match of the season at Steeple Langford.

The first seven runs of the Langford innings were wides and this set the trend for the day.

The visitors conceded 58 extras of which 39 were wide.

Jason King picked up two early wickets, but Andy Foyle (28) and Bennett (27) steadied the ship.

A crucial late flurry from Ben Hatt with an unbeaten 39 pushed the home side on to a more than useful 183-8 at tea.

Sam Dempster (3-36) and Darren Grayer (3-31) were the main wicket takers although missed catches did not help the cause.

Nomansland slipped to 10-2 in reply, but Terry Harrison hit a quickfire 24. However from 44-2, some pretty ordinary batting together with some fine bowling saw a slump to 90-8 and the game was all but over.

A gutsy stand of 39 between Ben Westhead and Mark Rowland achieved a modicum of respectability, but the visitors were all out 49 short with Westhead unbeaten on 23.

Daz Harvey with 4-24 was at the forefront of the varied home attack with Haugh and McNielly picking up two wickets apiece.
