FOVANT’S 13-month unbeaten run in Dorset League Division 1 was ended on Sunday by title favourites Dewlish.

Fovant, undefeated in 14 matches, bowled first on a pitch that suffered from the wet conditions. Dewlish did well to post 174 for eight off their 40 overs.

Fovant looked in trouble early on conceding over five runs an over but the spin duo of Paul Wylie (1-22) and Sam Arnold (0-37) slowed the run rate and brought the home side back into the game.

Lawrence Hely was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 17, demonstrating his fitness work was paying off.

However, it was Simon Ross’ bludgeoned 41 not out which gave Dewlish the advantage at the halfway stage. In reply, Fovant’s batsmen found the going tough on the damp, slow wicket. Tom Pearce managed 18 and Darren Sargent 11 but with the required run rate soaring, Fovant collapsed to 62 all out.
