AFTER leaving the decision whether to play until midday, Winterbourne CC II were rewarded with a 76-run victory over Whiteparish seconds.
Captain Chris Dickinson won the toss and elected to bat first and, after a steady start, the home team lost four quick wickets taking the score to 57, Mike Turner scoring 19.
A solid partnership of 45 between Mick Hunter 38 and John Shears then steadied the ship but, with Hunter caught and bowled by Packer two for 34, another quick wicket fell on the same score, 108.
With Shears now batting well, Martyn Nokes joined him at the wicket where they started to rebuild again, 43 more runs were added for the seventh wicket before Nokes edged onto his stumps for 11 from Steenkamp 3-45. Shears now started to play more shots and soon had the scoreboard racing as he completed an excellent 69 not out leaving Winterbourne with a defendable 192 for 8, which proved enough.
