IT was a dismal weekend for Redlynch & Hale senior sides, with all three failing to register wins.

In County 3 (North), the first XI were in deep trouble having been put into bat in difficult conditions by visitors Petersfield. Ian Tanner was given out when he was on just one, caught off his shoulder. However, after some consultation, he was sportingly recalled to the wicket, going on to make a priceless 40.

But, unfortunately, his teammates were not faring so well as four top order batsmen were cheaply accounted for by Shaun Blanks (3-17) and Dave Cox (3-36). At 57-4, things did not look good and although Kev Hopkins reached 22, only Ben Vincent (11) from the tail, got into double figures as Dom Carson (4-25) mopped up with the home side dismissed for a lowly 125.

In the run chase, Ben Brown bowled tidily, before Dave Webber (2-34) and Hopkins (2-24) threatened for a while, but Petersfield played their shots and, with Damien Carson (27) and Andy Barnes 25 not out, they swiftly overcame the target in the 29th over with five wickets in hand.

Disappointment was met by the club's second string, pictured above, who lost out to Sway.

Rich Whitmarsh grafted hard for an 80, while wickets collapsed around him. At one point, his side were 1 -5 but Ewan Tanner battled hard for 18 to push the score to 73 all out. Bromwell was the pick of the Sway attack, returning 4-11.

Low targets can sometimes be tricky and when Baz Barrett cut through the top of the Sway team with 5-34, the visitors sniffed a faint hope, However, Marshall had other ideas and his unbeaten 27 took his side home with four wickets and plenty of overs in hand.

It was definitely a day for run chases as the 3rd XI battled hard in the light showers to reach 190-8, with Simon Smith (76) returning to form against Southampton Travellers seconds. Colin Eveleigh supported with 29, but with the miserly I. Burrows sending down 10-7-2-6 runs and three wickets for Shiv Choudhury, the target was within range.

After an excellent start, Travellers had slumped to 22-4, thanks to Dom Sell's 2-7 in his opening spell and Rhys Higgins’ 2-27. However, a critical umpiring mistake when R. Kier was stumped off a wide having only scored a handful, allowed the latter to go on to 83 in a partnership of 177 with R. Thorpe Manley (81no) as the visitors, off the hook and with the sun shining, romped home by five wickets.

There was better news in the junior section as the under 15s sealed a win against Bramshaw and the under 11s collected their second triumph of the season.

But the under 9s failed to better OTs and Romsey’s 270-3 in their clash.
