SHREWTON’S Hampshire League County Division 1 title bid has been knocked off course by Ryde, whose 87-run win has dropped the Shrews to fourth place in the table with three games to play.
They collapsed to 146 all out after mid-table Ryde had made 233-9.
Lawrence Tolfrey (43) and Jarrod Hoskins (30) made an important fourth-wicket contribution for Ryde, whose eventual 233- 9 owed much to a handy ninth-wicket stand and Shrewton conceding 42 extras.
Stuart Cruse (3-31) took the bowling credits for the Shrews, who began brightly enough through Will Sleeman (26), Will Harries (39) and Sam Gillott (27).
But the other eight batsmen contributed only 27 runs between them as Shrewton fell apart, with Tolfrey taking 4-23.
The pressure is now on Shrewton, who must win their last three matches, including one at second placed Portchester on Saturday week, if they are to stay in the championship race.
