THE wheels have fallen off Shrewton’s season – the prospects for which looked so bright when they topped the Hampshire League table less than a month ago.

Since winning what appeared at the time to be a key County Division 1 championship match at Ropley, the Shrews have gone to pot.

Successive defeats against Ryde and Purbrook knocked Shrewton out of the title race.

Then followed a catastrophic 207-run defeat at Portchester, which has put the Castlemen within one win of the title. Shrewton’s attack was mauled for 50 overs as Portchester piled up a thumping 299-9.

Within five overs, Shrewton had lost three wickets and had only five runs on the board.

It didn’t get much better as Shrewton struggled to make 92 between them.

Their season ends against New Milton II on Saturday.
