WINTERBOURNE bagged a much-needed win by five wickets against leaders Godshill as they bowled out the home side for 114.

Winterbourne won the toss and elected to bowl first on – a great decision, as left armer Vaughan Browne clean bowled the opener Clive Bealey in his first over.

Browne then dismissed Bayliss, and Godshill were struggling. Nick Lawrence and Browne's supreme bowling had the home team at 29 for two in the 14th over.

Dangerman Cooper batted well and smashed a quick 30 runs but, once he was caught and bowled by Breeze, Godshill collapsed to just 114 runs in the 40th over. Browne finished with a five-wicket haul.

Winterbourne’s openers Thapa and Windows gave a good start and Thapa opened his account with a big six at mid wicket. He smashed 17 runs in the same over but was caught at short mid off via the bowling of Pollard, with the score on 30 after six overs.

Godshill’s bowling attack dismissed another two batsmen, Windows (12) and Shellum (2), leaving Winterbourne struggling on 32-3 off nine overs. In-form batsman Manny Gurung and Craig Johnson put on a much-needed partnership of 54 runs to take the score to 86.

Godshill struck back in the 25th over when Cooper took Johnson for 21 but by the time Manny was given lbw for 26 Winterbourne needed just 27 more runs to win.

Ed Dadd and Browne finished off the game in the 36th over.
