STEEPLE Langford maintained their 100 per cent winning record in the County Division 4 North after a 20 run home win against Compton & Chandlers Ford II.

Put into bat on a hard flat track, Langford soon found themselves on the back foot, losing both openers in the first couple of overs.

Adam McNeilly and Chris Mundy then looked to steady things with a solid 62 run partnership before McNeilly went for an important 27.

This brought Tom Dennis to the crease with Mundy and the two in-form Langford batsmen took advantage of the excellent batting conditions to put on a superb 126 partnership before Dennis was caught in the deep for a fine 63.

Soon after Mundy was run out for 89, his fourth consecutive half-century the innings closed on 220 for 5.

Opening bowlers Gary Smith and Nick Partridge put the opponents in trouble right from the start and had them reeling at 2 for 3. Lawrence (40) and Scallern (46) then started the rebuilding exercise with a cautious stand of 98 but all the time the run rate was creeping up meaning chances had to be taken.

The tail wagged well with Pickett (24) and Murray (20) cameo innings but in the end the home total proved too big to chase down and they finished 20 runs short on 200 for 9.
