AN under-par Farley recovered from an indifferent start to see-off lowly Ringwood by six wickets.

And with other results going in their favour, Farley moved into top slot in Regional Division One West.

Inserted, Ringwood’s opening pair struggled to put bat on ball but, buoyed by a healthy quantity of extras, had added 41 before BJ Cole struck with his first ball. Lewis Wakeford claimed another victim shortly after but Ringwood had reached a solid 74-2 just after the halfway mark.

Cole (4-25) then found some extra bounce to remove the dogged Ashman, and added two scalps in quick succession to leave Ringwood floundering at 77-5. Despite some late swinging, Farley’s spinners then finished the home side off for 122 (Jake Hand 3-21). Evidence of Farley’s indiscipline lay in the fact that extras accounted for more than a third of the total.

Farley’s response started steadily, before Mike Covill flicked one on to his boot, which rebounded onto the stumps. Two more wickets tumbled against some the skiddy seam of Faulkner, and at 40-3 the match was in the balance.

Dave Glanvill (30 not out) showed great discipline as he joined Farley’s Mr Consistent, Simon Wakeford, and the pair saw off Faulkner and then began to capitalise. They added 82, Wakeford reaching another half-century. With the scores level, Farley needed a boundary to secure maximum points; Wakeford was bowled looking for it, but three balls later Dan Jackson lofted the ball over the infield and trickled across the line.
