WINTERBOURNE claimed a stunning victory with three balls to go against leaders Winton which has thrown the Regional 1 (West) title race wide open.

After being asked to field first, three catches out of three left Winton rocking at 38-3.

Chris Warde started his spell with a maiden and Ed Dadd caught Clarke at gully in Joe Cunningham’s second over.

Winton were in trouble but the scoreboard quickly ticked over as they went from 54-4 to 97-4 in the space of 20 balls. The score later turned to 125-6 after 28 overs and Winterbourne needed to finish off the innings quickly on a pitch with variable bounce.

Chris Breeze was brought into the attack but the Winton batsman took 35 runs off his first four overs. The runs kept ticking over nicely and Winton finished their innings on 226-8.

The Winterbourne reply got off to a terrible start as Warde was promoted to open the batting but was bowled in the third over for one. Jamie Harvey followed four balls later when he gloved Williams to slip and a collapse looked on the cards at 5 for 2.

But that was until Ollie Lerwill came in and reached 50 within ten overs.

Bourne were racing along at 97-2 after 15 overs and, despite a nervy finale, they clinched it in the final over.
