BURLEY did all the hard work in dismissing Waterlooville 2nds for 134 in County Division 4 South at Rowlands Avenue but then their batting let them down and they rolled over to a costly defeat by 48 runs.

Skipper Wayne Tucker (4-16) led the attack alongside Jon Beck (3-17) and Craig Doick (3-31) as Waterlooville were all out in the 40th over. Burley were never happy against the home’s side bowling and they lost wickets at regular intervals before capitulating for 86 in 32 overs. Doick opened the batting and finished with an unbeaten 18 and Alec Moorman made 13.

Scott McLeonards was in fine form with the bat again as Verwood beat Lymington

3rds by 43 runs at Potterne

Park.

Opening the batting, McLeonards, who has relinquished the captaincy, carried his bat for an unbeaten 87 and he shared in a fifth wicket stand of 90 with the new skipper Eric Pearson (39).

Jordan Bishop made 24 as Verwood posted 185-6.

Lymington were kept in check by Jerry Millward (4-26) and Ali Gajic (2-20) and were all out for 142 in the 42nd over.

It was a blank day for Ellingham with both county division teams suffering heavy defeats.

In County Division 1, at Picket Post, the first team were restricted to 187-6 with Aaron Barker (36) and Ben Goram (32) top scorers, and then Fair Oak won by six wickets.

Chasing a Compton total of 283 in County Division 4 South, only Jim Edwards (64) made any real impression as nine-man Ellingham 2nds replied with 188.

Woodgreen had one of the worse batting displays in recent years as they were shot out for just 58 by Southampton Community in County Division 3 at Wide Lane. The home side reached 233 before they were all out in the 40th over mainly thanks to a fourth-wicket stand of 106.

Main wicket takers were Dave Naish (4-45) and Angus Harley (4-47).

Woodgreen crashed from 26-1 to 29-8 as seven wickets fell for just three runs with five batsmen dismissed without scoring. Chas Potts (14 no) was the only batsman in double figures and his score plus 24 extras made up most of the visitors’ total as the innings closed within 20 overs.
