AMESBURY began their 2016 season in the Hampshire League County Division 4 West with a resounding 105-run victory against Pylewell Park at their Archer's Gate home.

The hosts' openers Jayme Underwood and Adi Berry began steadily, and it wasn't until the 11th over that Pylewell claimed their first wicket.

Amesbury continued to build up the run rate, however, the introduction of Shaun Tramter pulled Pylewell Park back into the game as Amesbury lost Berry, Dando, Renshaw, Gower and debutant Derbyshire in relatively quick succession, slipping to 111-6 and the innings in danger of completely subsiding.

Amesbury's other debutant Joe Cornelius, decided to take matters into his own hands and punished Pylewell's attack, with an array of sumptuous drives, cuts and pulls to bring Amesbury back into the game and build a respectable total.

Cornelius passed his 50 and was well supported by the lower order in Surenderen, Jayden & Macualey Atkinson and Dobson.

Cornelius was the last wicket to fall in the 45th over, holing out for a magnificent 71 with Amesbury closing the innings on 216 all out. Key contributions in Amesbury's total also came from Berry (31) and Surenderen (24). Tramter was the pick of Pylewell's bowlers taking 5-54.

After tea, Amesbury's opening bowling attack of Dobson and Jayden Atkinson got to work and immediately put Pylewell's top order under pressure with a mixture of pace and movement of the surface.

Pylewell struggled to score due to the disciplined line and length served up by the bowlers as well as some excellent fielding. Atkinson and Dobson shared the first two wickets to fall as Pylewell staggered to drinks with the score on 31. Dobson finishing his spell with 1-20 while Atkinson 1-13.

The introduction of Surenderen and Cornelius continued to cause the Pylewell batsmen problems and shared five wickets between them - with Cornelius marking an exceptional debut with 3-30 and Surenderen taking 2-21.

Some late lower order hitting by Pylewell's Richard Cubitt (47) could not alter proceedings and Amesbury mopped up the tail with Macauley Atkinson taking 2-10 and Derbyshire claiming his first wicket for the club, finishing with 1-14 and closing Pylewell's innings on 111.
