Hampshire League – County Divisions

AFTER a disappointing start to their campaign in County Division 3 South, Woodgreen were back to form as they cruised to a comfortable eight-wicket victory when they visited Calmore Sports 3rds at Loperwood Park.

Tight bowling from the Woodgreen attack was supported by keen fielding as Calmore were reduced to 94 all out in the 37th over with only Leon Newton (27) in touch as Angus Horley (4-7 off eight overs), Jon Nash (3-33), Terry Harrison (2-27) and Mark Penny (1-23) did the damage.

The visitors lost two wickets, including Lawrence Harding (16), for 50 before the Nash brothers, Jon (44 no) and Stuart (14 no), saw them home without further loss in 19.4 overs.

Although they were rolled over for under three figures when they visited Whiteparish in County Division 4 West, Verwood were still able to record a 19-run victory on a very wet pitch, on which 20 wickets fell for 179 runs.

The bulk of Verwood’s 98 was made by their skipper John Driscoll (47) and Charlie Gajic (27) with John Dovey (4-10) and Glyn Turk (3-30) leading the attack as the visitors folded in 33 overs.

With only Barney Orr (34) showing any resistance, Whiteparish stuttered to 79 all out against Ollie Arnold (4-20) and Driscoll (3-15).

Top batting from James Edworthy and Jonathan Beck set up Burley’s 104-run victory when they visited Farley.

Burley got a solid start from openers Steve Doick (45) and Kieron Hudson (23) who put on 59 and after they had both gone it was left to Edworthy (91) and Beck (84 no) to add 154 for the third wicket as they posted 273-5, Geoff Ramsey taking 3-45.

The same pair, Edworthy (3-7 off 9.1 overs) and Beck (3-24), kept Farley in check as they slumped to 66-6 and it was only a seventh wicket stand of 86 between Ramsey (65) and Ted Glanville (47) that took them to a respectable 169 when they were all out in the 45th over, Craig Doick taking 3-48.

Ellingham 2nds’ 14-year-old colt Alex Turner was the star of his side’s seven-wicket victory when they beat Winterbourne by seven wickets at Picket Post.

Andy Weeks (4-25) and Andy Donaghue (3-12) were main wicket takers as Winterbourne folded for 168 in the 41st over with Marsh (42), Gutang (25) and Charlwood (23) the main scorers. After an early wicket fell, Turner (91) and Peter Doust (57) shared in a second wicket stand of 151 as Ellingham cruised home in the 34th over.

Ellingham’s first team recorded one of their lowest scores for several seasons when they visited Portsmouth and Southsea in County Division 1.

After losing the toss at Locksway Road, Ellingham were put into bat and were immediately in trouble against Mark Benfield (5-17). With only Tom Faulkner (14 no) and Dave Doust (13) in double figures, they were shot out for just 58 in the 22nd over and it took the home side only 6.1 overs to win by nine wickets.
