HEAVY showers ended Steeple Langford's chances of completing a full game at Liss in County Division 3 North.

They got started on time with skipper Andy Bennett once again winning the toss and putting the home side in to bat on a soft green wicket.

The Langford openers bowled well with Liam Harvey regularly putting the ball in the right areas, picking up a much deserved early wicket.

Seventeen overs were bowled before the first heavy shower forced the players off for 45 minutes, although they were able to get the covers on in time to protect the wicket.

When play resumed, Langford continued to bowl with accuracy and Tom Bennett took two wickets in his four overs. However, the rain came in again putting paid to the days play and leaving Liss on 74 for 3 from the 25 overs bowled. Steeple Langford are on their travels again this Saturday, visiting Liss’ neighbours Liphook & Ripsley.

Meanwhile, lowly Steeple Langford seconds were consigned to a 58-run defeat at home to Dorset Indians in Regional Division 2 West.

A solid start from the visitors saw them amass a total of 234 before being all out in the penultimate over of their innings.

Chris Miles took two wickets as did Raj Kumar with the other two being run outs.

With a big score to chase down and on what was now a bright sunny day, the Langford openers started positively and kept the scoreboard moving thanks to a combination of quick singles and boundaries.

Raj Kumar looked in good form with some sweet drives and cuts but, just after bringing up his half century, he succumbed for 54. Steve Emm (10) and Howard Smith (16) kept Kumar company at the start of the innings with young Harry Mould then looking very accomplished in the number four role, making 29 before being stumped. Darren Harvey (16) also looked settled but just as he began to hit out he fell into the leg side trap and was caught on the boundary.
