PROMOTION-CHASING Amesbury claimed an emphatic nine-wicket victory - their sixth of the season in County Division 4 West - at the expense of lowly Lymington.

Amesbury's opening bowling combination of Gareth Dobson and Jayden Atkinson began positively, with Dobson striking in his third over - trapping Gammaway leg before for 13. With Atkinson rather unluckily finding the edge on a regular basis to no avail, his brother Macauley Atkinson was introduced and immediately claimed the wicket of Jayasinghe, caught and bowled for four.

A brilliant piece of fielding by Andy Renshaw accounted for the next dismissal - a superb direct throw at the non-striker's end running out opener Jackson for five, to leave Lymington struggling on 27-3.

Atkinson and Dobson then quickly shared the next two wickets to fall - Atkinson, bowling Flanagan senior for five and Dobson, trapping Flanagan junior leg before for one. Dobson duly completed his spell, finishing with outstanding figures of 2-11, which included five maidens. Atkinson's tight spell was rewarded with a further wicket - removing Ambrose for 14 after a fine catch from his brother Jayden Atkinson. Atkinson eventually finishing up with figures of 3/20.

Amesbury wasted no time in mopping up Lymington's tail, with Tony Gower and Sumith Surendran sharing the last three wickets to fall.

An excellent bowling and fielding effort resulted in Lymington being all out for a paltry 66 in only the 30th over.

Amesbury's openers for the day, Sam Dando and Adi Berry, wasted no time in knocking off the required target. After a number of sublime cuts and drives, Dando was caught at mid-off for a well made 38, off the bowling of Jayasinghe and duly ending a 57-run opening partnership.
