AMESBURY produced a commanding display to defeat Suttoners by a colossal 241-run margin in County Division 4 West.

Jayme Underwood and fellow opener Andy Renshaw began positively with 42 runs being accumulated in the first six overs.

Things were ticking over nicely until Underwood departed for 17. Jordan Derbyshire entered and in combination with Renshaw continued to keep the scoreboard moving. Renshaw duly reached his 50 with a trademark cover drive and the second wicket partnership had reached 112 when Renshaw was caught and bowled by Demmett for a brilliantly made 71.

Sam Dando joined Derbyshire at the crease, and together they accelerated through the gears to build a commanding first innings total. Derbyshire played a number of sumptuous cuts, sweeps and drives to reach his 50. With a combination of quick running and Suttoners' fielders struggling to cope in humid conditions, runs began to flow at an alarming pace.

The third wicket partnership had passed 101, when Derbyshire on 98 raced through for a second run to complete a beautifully composed 100 and achieve a personal milestone in the process. Dando shortly reached his 50 with a glorious clip through mid-wicket, although the partnership finally ended on 128 when Dando produced a simple opportunity to Demmett at gully off Cosby to depart for a well made 56. Derbyshire continued to play nicely until his innings eventually ended, when on 125 he was bowled by Demmett.

Dale Gower and Jayden Atkinson chipped in with 12 and 7 respectively before Sumith Surendran knocked 37 and Dave Bailey 12 not out to conclude their innings on a gigantic 362/6.

In response, Amesbury's ever-reliable opening bowling combination of Gareth Dobson and Atkinson got to work and immediately caused Suttoners' openers problems. The partnership had reached 25 when the introduction of Arun Krishnan paid dividends, removing Robinson for 18 after finding Derbyshire at slip. Twigg had also reached 18 when he departed, bowled off the sharp leg-spin of Dave Bailey.

Dobson completed his excellent spell with miserly figures of 0/14, which included five maidens. Macauley Atkinson was introduced and claimed the wicket of Demmett, holing out to Gower at deep mid-on to depart for 17. Atkinson and Bailey then quickly accounted for the middle order, removing Birt and Gosby to leave Suttoners 94/5.

Surendran was then brought into the attack and, with the help of Bailey, dismissed Suttoners on 121.
