A DOUBLE-HEADER success capped an excellent weekend for Salisbury women hockey firsts.

Braces from Vicki Brewis and Kerry Jackson saw Salisbury shove four past City of Bath, with shotstopper Alana Mercer keeping a clean sheet to move into fourth in West Club Women’s Hockey League Premier Division 2A.

Then, on Sunday, the women romped to a 7-2 win over Wootton Bassett in the Investec Trophy.

Brewis and Jackson got on the scoresheet again along with Lily Jackson, Sonia Bruce, on target from the penalty spot, and Suzie Hockley with a beautiful strike from a penalty corner.

The women play in the next round of the cup on November 22 when they visit Mid Somerset, who are based in Wells.

Men return to winning ways

THE Men’s first team comfortably outplayed Bournemouth en-route to a 3-1 victory in Hampshire Division One.

It was a much deserved three points for Salisbury who conceded seven goals last time out.

Bournemouth struggled to deal with the combination of winger Dom Welman and skipper Andy Renshaw.

It was their partnership which opened the scoring, a skilful ball over-the-top from Renshaw played in Whelman who squared for Jon Powell to score.

Despite creating more chances it was Bournemouth who levelled just after the break.

But further goals from Welman and Jagjit Marwaha secured the win.

Renshaw said: “It’s great to get back on track."
