THE Lord Bledisloe Cup got underway on Saturday, with two quarter-finals taking place.

Dan Jones' cracking finish put Nomansland & Landford ahead against Porton Sports, but that lead didn't last long, Andy Mearns bursting down the right and crossing for Matt Lucas to volley home. Mike Budd unselfishly squared for Ade Hale to slot the visitors into a half-time lead.

Immediately from the restart, Hale played a one-two with Budd before firing in off the post. Nomansland kicked off but Porton closed them down again, and Mearns' pace got him away to cross for Lucas to score with a diving header, making it 4-1. Dean Reynolds headed a consolation from a corner with the last action of the game.

South Newton & Wishford also made it through, beating Tisbury United 3-2 at home.

In the first minute, Dan Brain was upended by the goalkeeper who saved the resulting spot kick. The Blues continued to apply the pressure and soon enough Rich Tutton’s corner enabled his brother Micky to open the scoring.

Newton doubled their lead on the half-hour mark when Keith Darling's spectacular strike from distance went in off both posts.
Tisbury pulled one back with a penalty just before the interval.

Rich Tutton smashed in Newton's third from Adam Payne's free kick, and Tisbury's second goal was too little, too late.

In Saturday Division One, Amesbury Kings Arms recorded a fourth straight win, beating South Newton reserves 2-0.

With only a few minutes on the clock Jake Minnit put the Kings in front with a quality finish. Tony Sharps preserved the lead with a fantastic save, then Martin Luke headed in Jamie Ringham's corner in the second half.
