SHREWTON United kept their first clean sheet in two months with a narrow 1-0 win at home to Wroughton in Wiltshire Premier League.

Both sides came into the game in confident mood after beating higher league opposition in the Wiltshire Senior Cup.

The visitors started the stronger of the two as they applied pressure on the Shrewton defence who were thankful to alert goalkeeper Joe Sheldrake.

As the half wore on, the home side began to get a foothold and some neat passing, starting in defence, worked its way up the pitch to forward Craig Appleby, making his first start of the season, who managed to find half a yard and put in a teasing cross for Craig Lewis to make it 1-0.

The goal ended a fine team move and added to the many goals Lewis has to his name this season, placing him among the top scorers in the division.

The Swindon-based side then managed to slow the tempo down and restrict United to few opportunities.

The second period continued as the first had ended with both sides cancelling each other out.

The slender advantage was tested as the game dragged on and the visitors began to exert some pressure on the Shrewton back line, who hung on.

Shrewton are away this weekend to Trowbridge Wanderers (3pm).
