THE Wanderers were left bruised as they fell to the heaviest defeat in their history, which resulted in a second consecutive cup exit.

After being dumped out of the Premier Cup the previous week by Alderbury, the same opposition, this time round, completed the perfect seven in the quarter final of the Morrison Cup.

Alderbury will go onto face Chalke Valley in the semi final, after they beat Durrington WMC 7-6 in a jaw-dropping penalty shootout.

The visitors found themselves 3-0 up inside 20 minutes, with their first three attacks. And they made it 4-0 just before half time, already putting the game to bed.

Despite an attempt to restore some pride, the visitors held strong and it was no surprise that a trio of late goals were added as Alderbury ran out clear winners.

Wanderers’ manager Liam McConnell, pictured, said: “Obviously the result was disappointing but it was the team performance that hurt the most. We had a bad day, but to roll over like we did in the first half and gift them goals as we did was totally out of character.”

“The boys are obviously disappointed but credit to Alderbury, they were relentless on the day and we deserved what we got. I have no doubt the lads want to put this behind them and hit form immediately. They are certainly capable.”
