A FIVE-STAR display from South Newton was rewarded with a ticket to the semi final of the Morrison Cup after stuffing Porton Sports.

The hosts shook off their quarter final opponents with five goals to set-up a last four tie with Stockton & Codford, who were 3-1 winners over Sarum Youth Seniors Reserves.

Adam Payne’s drive from the edge of the box got the Stoford Recreation Ground outfit off to a dream start, which was the only goal in the first 45 minutes.

In the second period, South Newton extended their lead through ontarget Payne, this time he found space and drove the ball home.

With the hosts in fullswing, Billy Poole got a third after converting from close range, followed up by stand-in striker, and player/ manager, Keith Darling, pictured, who slammed home.

Poole then got another to round off the 5-0 rout.

Darling said: I’m really pleased with the lads’ discipline and attitude today, we knew we would be in a game from the start as previous games against Porton this year have been very close.

“The second half performance was superb, back four were solid and another clean sheet which always boosts confidence. It was nice to see the lads playing with a smile on their face.

“We had 20 lads at training on Wednesday night and have started inviting a few of the under-18s along to get them involved in the first step of men’s football, which is nice to see.”
