SECOND-PLACED South Newton and Wishford signed off their season with a creditable 2-2 draw against likely champions Alderbury.

The visitors, four points from mathematically being declared Salisbury and District (Saturday) Premier League champions, took the lead after 15 minutes following an attack down the middle which left the home keeper isolated once he was lobbed.

Alderbury went 2-0 up after more pressure had found the home defence back-pedalling and, in a moment of confusion, the ball bobbled into the net.

After a stern talk at the interval from player/manager Keith Darling, a determined Newton started to take the game to their opponents.

Despite missing a spot kick after a handball was given, Billy Poole pulled a goal back from close range to increase his tally to 23 for the season before Darling executed a late leveller.

Other games across the division saw Stockton and Codford, who need to win their last three games of standing any chance of contending for the title, flex their muscles with an 8-1 thumping over Cedars FC, while Porton Sports shared a 1-1 stalemate with Amesbury Kings Arms FC.

n Alderbury hope to get their hands on a third piece of silverware on Saturday.

They face Freshford United in the Wiltshire Junior Cup Final at Warminster Town (3pm), knowing a win would put them on course for the quadruple.
