SARUM Youth Seniors’ never-say-die attitude nearly reaped its rewards in a topsy-turvy showdown in Wiltshire Premier League.
The Castle Meadows outfit put in a dogged showing at home to Wroughton but went down by the odd goal in the nine-goal blockbuster.
The hectic clash saw Sarum take an early lead but the visitors restored parity on the stroke of half time with a converted spot kick.
Four minutes after the break, Wroughton poked their noses in front but with a quickfire goal.
Back came Sarum and Mike Joy six minutes later to level, and the hosts restored their lead with a headed goal.
However, sluggish defending allowed Wroughton pounce for a third and then go in front.
Mitch Alford thought he had secured a point for Sarum late on but visitors had the final say with a fifth goal.
