THE Wanderers continued their unbeaten start to the season with a hard fought 2-1 victory at home to second-placed Tisbury United on Saturday.

The game started brightly enough, with Adam Jones and Nick Newman both having chances, but neither could find the opener. It was the visitors who created the best chance, a downward header from a corner looping up and over Graham Kitley only for the alert Steph Tinkler to head over the bar. However the danger wasn't over and from the resulting corner, poor marking allowed a free header at the near post to find the net.

The home side were eager to put things right and after good work from Adam Jones, his pinpoint cross found Gaz Hooker who pounced from close range to level things up.

The hosts finally took the lead on 48 minutes, and the winner came from an unlikely source. From a cleared corner, the ball fell to Tinkler whose dangerous ball split the goalkeeper and defenders and found Alex Davis alone at the back post to smash home his first ever goal in three seasons for his side.

Porton Sports turned up at Stockton & Codford with a bare XI but still managed a draw. Doug Malcolm opened the scoring after just 15 seconds with a great volley, but Stockton equalized before the break.

The hosts made it 2-1 from the penalty spot before Andy Mearns stuck a clean shot from outside the box to level. In the dying minutes, Porton gave away another penalty but stand-in goalkeeper Si Ford pulled off a great save to preserve a point.

In Division One, Amesbury Kings Arms bounced back from last week's defeat to Whiteparish by winning 1-0 against previously unbeaten league leaders Durrington WMC.

The goal came on the half-hour mark when Stevie Leigh beat the offside trap and skilfully lobbed the goalkeeper to claim all three points for the Kings.
