FOLLOWING a heartbreak defeat to The Wanderers, South Newton and Wishford United recovered with a 2-1 win at Sarum Youth Seniors Reserves in Salisbury and District Premier League.
From the start, Keith Darling’s South Newton took the game to Sarum Youth and their early pressure was soon rewarded with Rich Tutton’s header, from a well worked set piece, which found the net.
South Newton showed great composure and commanded the remainder of the first half. And thanks to two fine saves from Kevin Jordan, they entered the break 1-0 up.
The slim margin was under threat in the second half and the hosts soon found the leveller with a well taken goal.
But, with 20 minutes left, South Newton regained their lead. Micky Tutton was upended on the half way line and the visitors where awarded a free kick. A deftly executed set piece followed from Dan Winters, which was fumbled by the Sarum keeper, and Charlie Blake was on hand to set up Billy Poole to fire in the winner.
