A day at the races

SALISBURY City were well represented at Salisbury Racecourse's historic two-day Bibury Meeting.

Day one of the meeting staged by the oldest racing club in the world, saw proceedings close with the Congratulations to Salisbury City FC 'Champions' Handicap.

The class five race over one mile, two furlongs even had a footballing twist to it as it was won by the Mick Channon-trained Katchit.

The ex-Southampton and England footballer turned highly successful racehorse trainer posed for photographs after the race with Salisbury City representatives Nev Beale, Paul Orsborn and Trevor Cross.

Katchit and Tony Culhane (12/1) beat Ollie George and Jamie Spencer(8/1) by two lengths. Sky High Guy and Shane Kelly (16/1) were third.

Day Two also saw a Salisbury City presence as first team boss Nick Holmes and goalkeeping coach Mitch Blake, along with directors Nev Beale and Stuart McGlashan and marketing development manager Val Knight were guests of former City director Peter Yeldon, whose company poshchateaux.com were sponsors of the one-mile two-furlong maiden race.

This was won by Richard Hills aboard the Marcus Tregoning-trained Majaales (5/2).
