SALISBURY City produced a fantastic performance on Saturday to pull themselves out of the relegation zone for the first time since ten points were deducted.

They started brightly and took the lead after 13 minutes when Darrell Clarke crossed and Danny Webb headed down for Matt Tubbs to score.

Just a few minutes later, Clarke played the ball into Webb’s feet and he fed Tubbs who shot just past the post.

Sean Clohessy, such an attacking threat from full-back, picked out Chris Flood with a long ball in the 19th minute, but Tim Deasy pulled off a good save.

Flood had another effort on 33 minutes, but the keeper saved again.

The winger’s persistence paid off when he got the second goal four minutes later, placing a shot past Deasy from Webb’s pass.

Jamie Turley picked up a knock and he was replaced by Queens Park Rangers loanee Joe Oastler at half time.

Tubbs missed a great chance for his second just three minutes after the break, hitting the post from Flood’s pass when he really should have done better.

The Whites’ top scorer took his tally to eight on 74 minutes though, finishing inside the box from a ball from man-of-the-match Flood.

Tubbs almost had his second hat-trick of the campaign with a late free kick that went wide.

“It was a great team performance,” said manager Tommy Widdrington.

“We worked very hard in training on certain aspects and the lads took to that really, really well.

“That’s all we can hope to do.”
