The Skrill Premier

Aldershot Town 3

Salisbury City 2

Half time: 2-2

DEFENDER Joe Oastler crushed his former club’s first half comeback as his winning strike edged a Good Friday goal feast for relegation fighters Aldershot Town in The Skrill Premier.

The ex-Salisbury City loanee, who played under Mikey Harris while he was Tommy Widdrington’s assistant in 2009, netted the decisive strike three minutes after the interval to make Ryan Brett’s and Charlie Sheringham’s goals ineffective.

A sluggish start, for another time on the road, saw the visiting side go behind within 15 minutes of play. Brett Williams stayed calm in a one-on-one situation with Will Puddy after Craig Stanley’s through ball split City’s back three wide open.

Things turned sour six minutes later when Kevin Amankwaah was found guilty of blocking Mark Molesley’s piledriver inside the box with his hands. Up stepped Williams who smashed the spot kick past Will Puddy to take his goal tally to 23 for the season and double Town’s lead.

But the visiting side didn’t let the clash peter out, with Brett using his height to halve the deficit three minutes later to put his team back in the equation.

And then Sheringham drilled past Glenn Morris to draw City on level terms 13 minutes before the interval, which changed the dynamics at Electrical Services Stadium, as well as rattling the large home crowd.

But their efforts were wasted in the 48th minute when a set-piece caused chaos in City’s six yard area and Oastler directed home at the far post.

The winning goal slowed the tempo down and, although, a triple substitution of Ricky Wellard, Chris McPhee and Rob Sinclair threatened a vulnerable home team, the Shots hung on for dear life.

“We’re obviously disappointed with the result and second half performance,” said boss Harris after his 12th placed side fell to back-to-back defeats.

“How the referee gave a penalty I don’t know but he said the ball hit Kevin’s arm, which has given us a mountain to climb.

“We got back into it and we had the momentum but we shot ourselves in the foot with another set piece. We never got our game going after that.”

City welcome Welling United to the Ray Mac on Easter Monday (3pm).
