A TEAM of Salisbury City supporters battled torrential conditions to complete an intrepid charity cycle ride of 215 miles to Chester FC.

Charlie’s Cycling Circus spread the distance over three days – 90 miles on Thursday, 80 on Friday and 45 on Saturday – in aid of Children with Cancer UK.

The seven cyclists soaked up wet conditions on the second day, and picked up £200 from well-wishers, but were blessed with dry conditions for the final day where they were greeted with a warm cheer at the Swansway Stadium.

“The final day was superb,” said organiser Stuart Cannell, whose fundraising team previously cycled to Woking and walked to Basingstoke Town last season.

“We woke to blue skies and dry roads and reached Chester in just three hours to a fantastic welcome from City supporters, parents and Chester FC officials. The club were very hospitable.”

And to top it off, the fans watched City score an 86th minute equaliser for a share of the spoils.

Boss Mikey Harris hailed the group’s ride a “great achievement”.

He said to the Journal: “I take my hat off to them as cycling to Chester is not something I'd be keen to do.”

“I'm not good on two wheels, I'd rather run to be honest.

“What they've achieved is brilliant. These guys are the diehard fans I'm talking about and have done well.

“They are the lifeblood of the club.

“The lads and I put some money into the charity, which is a fantastic cause. What a great achievement.”

They’ve almost raised £3,000 and to help them reach their £5,000 target, donate at |justgiving.com/charlies-cycling-circus.
