GLOVEMAN Charlie Searle believes Salisbury FC are still destined to reach the final of the FA Vase at Wembley.

The 20-year-old, on-loan from Conference South outfit Havant and Waterlooville, is confident the Whites can salvage the tie.

It's half-time in the semi-final and Hereford hold the slight edge going into Saturday's crucial second leg.

"We've got to stay positive," Searle told JournalSport.

"We know we weren't at it on Saturday, we can always do better but we've come here and I would have taken a 1-0. I think many of the fans and management staff would have taken it as well."

"We can play better than we did on Saturday."

"What's the point in stop believing now?

"We have to dust ourselves down and do it right in the week and get ready for Saturday.

"It would be handy if we get an early goal.

"Let's have it."

The goal separating the competition's heavyweights, both of which are flying in their respective divisions, arrived four minutes into the second half.

Jimmy Oates crossed for fellow Hartpury College student Mustapha Bundu, who leaped above Whites' right-back George Colson and buried his header into the bottom corner.

"It was a good header, he has beat George and is running onto it," added Searle, who is a coach at Portsmouth Academy.

"On another day I might have kept it out but it was a good finish."

"I wasn't really sure what to expect because we are used to playing teams and thrashing them every week and they (Hereford) are the best in this region.

"On our day we have to play better and we'll do at home, with the crowd, get an early goal.

"I still fancy us."

Since joining from the Hawks at the turn of the year, Searle has played in the last four FA Vase games against AFC Dunstable, where he made his debut, Nuneaton Griff, Ashford United and Saturday's first leg at Hereford. That was the first time in his career that he played in front of nearly 5,000 people, which was an occasion he relished.

"It was brilliant, really enjoyed it," he continued.

"I gave the home fans a bit of stick in the first half, which is always good. To be honest I sort of switched off from the fans.

"When you are focused on the game you just get on with it.

"It's nice to come to a big ground and is a good occasion."
