THE disappointment of the FA Vase was brushed aside for Salisbury on Tuesday night as they marched back to the top of Sydenhams Wessex League with a 4-1 victory over Alresford.

An early Jack Vallis header from Sam Roberts' free kick gave Whites the lead, before the towering defender sustained an ankle injury that forced him from the field with suspected damaged ligaments.

A header from experienced Robbie Matthews was then turned in by a home defender to double the visitors' advantage before Alresford pulled one back shortly before half-time.

Ashley Jarvis, celebrating becoming a new father, stroked home from the penalty spot in the 77th minute to give Whites breathing space.

And moments later, Sam Roberts sealed the win by drilling home.

Whites are just two points clear of nearest challengers Blackfield and Langley but have an additional four games in hand due to their progress in the Vase, which was ended by Hereford in last weekend's semi-final second leg.

Elsewhere on Tuesday night, Bemerton Heath Harlequins, fresh from romping to a 3-0 victory over Moneyfields thanks to a Sam Griffin hat-trick, shared the spoils away at Cowes Sports 1-1.

In Division One, Laverstock and Ford kept the pressure on leaders Portland United after running out 3-1 victors at Romsey Town.

Two first half own goals from Matthew Game and Zak Pickett gave Lavvy a comfortable lead.

Jones then added a third before Town netted a consolation in the 89th minute through Game.
