GOAL-MACHINE Justin Bennett hasn't ruled out the possibility of a move to home club Salisbury FC.

The 33-year-old striker became a free agent after cancelling his contract at financially-stricken Gosport Borough.

He called time on his nine-year stint at the National League South outfit last month.

Now, he is being targeted by newly-promoted Poole Town and Salisbury.

When JournalSport contacted Bennett about joining the Whites, who have won promotion to Southern League Division One South and West, he replied: " At this stage, I don't know. Going to chat with him (Steve Claridge) soon among other clubs and make a decision from there."

Head coach Steve Claridge says he's looking to bolster his squad ahead of preparations for life at step four.

And among those players on his radar is Bennett.

Claridge said: "I envision most of this squad returning next year, but we have three or four that we have identified that we need to bring in but we will see.

"Obviously, [Bennett] has left [Gosport] and now he has become available we will hopefully have a chat and see where we go with him."

Whites' Sydenhams Wessex Premier glory became official on Saturday when they were presented with the title by league officials.

They finished their account with a 1-0 win over Newport (IOW) to finish on 105 points.

That's the highest number of points the division winners have finished on for six years - Poole Town amounting 109 in 2009/10 season.

As Whites hope to progress, Claridge says he'll be keeping tabs on what he spends.

"We have stuck to a budget, which is very low for a football club like this," he added.

"I know clubs which get half the gate and spend five times the money.

"We have kept a lid on the finances and we will continue to do that.

"I want to manage as well, I don't want to just spend money and buy my way out of it.

"There will be people in the next league with ridiculous budgets for the size of the club and good luck to them."
